Opening Retreat
Students will participate in and explore group dynamics, public speaking, team building, decision making and leadership concepts. Participants will also examine their own attitudes and experiences that make up a diverse community.
Leadership Development
This program will introduce concepts, styles and characteristics of leadership, help students gain an awareness of their leadership styles and help them identify qualities and attributes of other leaders.
Quality of life in a Quality Community: What makes it work?
This day will be designed to give the students a first-hand look at the artistic and cultural diversity of the metropolitan area. What characteristics make the area worthwhile and attractive? How do quality of life and economic growth relate? This program will explore the tangible and intangible ingredients of quality living in the area. The main focus will also cover discussions, site visits and decision-making exercises exploring social responsibility, ethics, youth gangs, teen pregnancy, the homeless, child abuse, the welfare system, prejudice and other areas of human needs and health services.
The Justice System: The Law and Politics
An in-depth review of the justice system and juvenile crime, how laws are made and carried out Additionally, the session focuses on how city, county and state governments operate. The students will explore current issues and future trends and lawmaking.
It's more than just the ABCs: Education and Career Development
During this day, students will be presented with an overview of the current educational structure in our community as well as challenges facing both public and private schools. They may experience opportunities to further their education by visiting those institutions that provide career training in a non-collegiate atmosphere.
Business and Economic Development: What moves us and shakes us
This program explores the history of the metropolitan area and how it fits economically. Students may visit with business leaders to discuss topics such as starting and owning a business, women and minorities in business, attracting new industry and other economic development issues and concerns.
Youth Trusteeship & Celebration: We've only just begun!
This day will be a time to reflect on the year and to establish priorities based on the Youth Leadership experience, to be challenged for the future and to celebrate with classmates and family members at a graduation event.
